The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Buffalo Bills Saturday night at Heinz Field in their second preseason game of the 2014 season and head coach Mike Tomlin said during his Thursday press conference that he expects that the first-team players will play more this week than they did last week against the New York Giants.
“I really hadn’t looked at a snap allocation yet, but rest assured that we want to give more exposure to those guys in this football game,” said Tomlin.
Against the Giants, starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger only played one series before giving way to backup Bruce Gradkowski. The Steelers starting offensive line, however, played two series against the Giants.
The Steelers usually use their third preseason game as a tune-up for the regular season, so Roethlisberger and the rest of the starters might only see three possessions at most this week depending on how the flow of the game goes.
The Steelers are wrapping up their 2014 training camp Thursday with an evening scrimmage against the Bills and will break camp on Friday in preparation for Saturday’s game.
