Former Pittsburgh Steelers center Fernando Velasco finally has a new home as it was announced on Wednesday that he has signed with the Carolina Panthers.
Velasco, who was signed last year by the Steelers after starting center Maurkice Pouncey was lost for the season in the opener against the Tennessee Titans, started 11 straight games at center before tearing his Achilles’ late in the Week 13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Velasco, who broke into the league in 2008 as an undrafted free agent with Titans, will likely be battling to backup Panthers starting center Ryan Kalil during training camp.
