On Tuesday, we passed along a report that the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to sign California University wide receiver C.J. Goodwin to their roster and now that transaction has been made official.
As part of that report, I speculated that if Goodwin was ultimately signed that it could possibly come at the expense of undrafted wide receiver Jasper Collins and that wound up being the case. Collins had been sidelined during several of the OTA practices with an undisclosed injury, so he was waived on Tuesday.
Goodwin caught 11 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown in 2013 and reportedly ran a 4.41 second 40-yard-dash at his Pro Day. The Steelers have Goodwin listed at (6-3, 190), but other sites have him at (6-1, 178).
Prior to his one season at California University, Goodwin played at Fairmont State in 2012 and he caught 24 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns that season.
