Due to them having to play one game in London and another out in Oakland last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers traveled more than 15,000 miles in 2013. This season, however, their time in the air will be much, much shorter.
According to John Breech of CBS Sports, the Steelers eight road games in 2014 will result in them traveling 5,896 miles and when compared to the other 31 teams in the league, that’s the fewest.
Teams traveling the fewest miles in 2013 didn’t fair so well, however, as Breech points out that of the five teams that traveled the fewest miles last season — the Lions, Bears, Packers, Browns and Jets – combined to finish 35-44-1.
One caveat of the Steelers having a shorter amount of time in the air this season is that only one of their road games will be played outside of the eastern time zone. That game will take place Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans.
The Oakland Raiders are the team that will travel the most in 2014 as their scheduled 36,106 flight miles includes four trips of more than 2,000 miles each.
