Things continue to get worse for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, who is currently waiting to hear if he’ll be suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell following a failed drug test.
According to Matthew Florjancic of WKYC-TV, Gordon was issued a speeding ticket over the Memorial Day holiday weekend in Strongsville, OH after he was clocked going 74 miles an hour in a 60-mile-per-hour zone.
To make matters worse, one of Gordon’s three passengers in the vehicle was also issued a citation during the traffic stop for being in possession of marijuana in an amount under 200 grams.
A speeding ticket certainly isn’t going to get Gordon in trouble with the league, but it certainly doesn’t look good that one of his passengers was cited for possession of marijuana.
“We are gathering information regarding the situation,” Browns general manager Ray Farmer said in a statement released by the team. “We will not have any further comment until the appropriate time.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers open the 2014 season at home against the Browns and they play them again in Cleveland in Week 6. It will be surprising if Gordon is able to play in either of those two games and there’s a chance he could be suspended for the entire 2014 season.
Gordon caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013. In his two games against the Steelers last season, he caught 21 passes for 319 yards and one touchdown.
