Much like the player he’s been signed to replace, new Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell certainly isn’t one to hold his tongue when it comes to the league and how they handle discipline of players. On Monday, Mitchell has already chimed in on the recent arrest of Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay for driving under the influence and being in possession of a controlled substance.
Mitchell took to Twitter Monday morning with his thoughts on the subject.
Very curious how the @nfl and @nflcommish will handle this developing Jim Irsay story. I know when it comes to players… #NoMercy

FYI I believe in mercy/2nd chances. Actually I believe in 77 chances but the commish runs a tight ship so that's why I said curios to see

Mitchell was fined five times last season and those fines reportedly totaled close to $45,000. Following the fifth fine, he spoke out about NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
“Roger being Roger, I guess,” Mitchell said. “To be honest, I think there is a little bit of a targeting system they have out. I think I’m one of the guys they’d been looking for, but I’m OK with that.”
It will likely be a while until we know the outcome with Irsay, who according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, is also subject to league discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy, but you can bet Mitchell will be watching.
Mitchell’s predecessor, safety Ryan Clark, was the Steelers union representative for several years and now that it’s certain he won’t be back, Mitchell very well could be a candidate to take over that position from him on the Steelers as well.
