The Miami Dolphins have announced that they’ve hired Tampa Bay Buccaneers director of player personnel Dennis Hickey as their next general manager and that means that Pittsburgh Steelers Director of Football Administration Omar Khan will likely have to wait at least another year before he becomes a general manager.
Khan has now been considered for a few general manager openings across the league over the course of the last few years, but for one reason or another he hasn’t landed one. You would think that Khan’s knowledge of the business side of things would be attractive to other organizations, but so far that hasn’t been the case.
Khan will turn 37 in February, so his football front office career is far from being over. He will continue to get interviews as other general manager positions open up moving forward and it’s only a matter of time before he lands one.
For now, Khan will continue to manage the salary cap and negotiate contracts for the Steelers while Samir Suleiman, his heir apparent, continues to assist him.
