Steelers Inactives For Panthers Game Includes No Surprises

As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers will not dress five players Saturday night against the Carolina Panthers in their preseason finale as Isaac Redman, Le’Veon Bell, Jarvis Jones, Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth were all announced as pregame scratches.

This will mark the third straight preseason game that Redman will miss as a result of a stinger suffered several weeks ago in practice.

Bell, who has reported now ditched the walking boot on his sprained foot, continues to recover and his status for the season opener is questionable at best right now.

Jones will miss his first preseason game after suffering a chest sprain last week when he was tackled following him intercepting a deflected pass. He is currently day-to-day right now, but should be ready for the season opener.

Miller remains on the Active PUP list, but head coach Mike Tomlin hinted this past week that he could be activated come Saturday. While he might not be ready for action just yet, at least he will be able to practice with the team once he is taken off the PUP list.

Spaeth is still several weeks away from returning following his Lisfranc surgery. While he most certainly will be on the 53 man roster come late Saturday night, the Steelers could choose to place him on the injured reserve with the designated to return tag next week if they feel like he will miss the first eight weeks of the season.

As of right now, it looks as though Reggie Dunn (shoulder), Isaiah Green (unknown) and LaRod Stephens-Howling (knee) will all see action Thursday night.
