According to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Twitter, tight end Matt Spaeth was carted off the practice field Wednesday with some sort of injury. Kaboly says he didn\’t see how the injury occured and didnt specify the nature of it. Spaeth had just returned to practice recently after having his right knee drained of fluid last week.
The Steelers signed Spaeth during the offseason after he spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears. The Minnesota product was originally drafted by the Steelers in the third-round of the 2007 NFL Draft and he played his first four seasons in the league with Pittsburgh.
The Steelers brought Spaeth back in order to help shore up the run blocking this season as he is regarded as one of the best run blocking tight ends in the league.
The Steelers are already without tight ends Heath Miller and David Johnson as both remain on the Active PUP list while they continue to rehab knee injuries suffered last season.
As of right now, second-year tight end David Paulson is the only healthy tight end on the roster with game experience.
We will update you when more is known about Spaeth\’s injury.
