According to the Wednesday official NFL transaction release, undrafted free agent running back Curtis McNeal was waived injured by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bob Labriola reported on the Wednesday edition of Steelers Live that the USC product had an unspecified injury. McNeal had been sidelined the last few days of practice prior to the Tuesday off day.
The Steelers had originally signed the 5-7, 190-pound running back immediately following the 2013 NFL Draft. In his final two years at USC, McNeal rushed for 1,706 yards on 261 carries and eight touchdowns. He also chipped in another 130 yards on 10 receptions in those two seasons.
McNeal will more than likely revert back to the Steelers injured reserve list after he clears waivers.
The Steelers signed free agent running back signed Alvester Alexander on Wednesday to take McNeal\’s spot on the 90 man roster. Alexander was originally signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft. Measuring in at 5-11, 204-pounds, Alexander rushed for 2,127 yards and 27 touchdowns over a three-year career at Wyoming.
