The first Friday night training camp practice for the Pittsburgh Steelers figures to have a whole different feel to it this year, as not only will not take place at Latrobe High School, but there won\’t be any goal-line drill as well, which head coach Mike Tomlin hasn\’t been a fan of running since he became head coach.
Tomlin was asked Thursday after practice if we should expect the annual goal-line exhibition and his emphatic one word answer of “no” pretty much said it all.
Perhaps Tomlin figures that two straight days of live-tackling is enough or perhaps he was still stinging inside from just watching rookie undrafted free agent guard Nik Embernate go down with what he believes to be a significant knee injury. We just don\’t know. Maybe this was planned all along.
In lieu of no Friday night goal-line drill, perhaps a second round of backs on backers is on the dance card for later this evening. We shall see. There will be fireworks tonight at Saint Vincent College, however, but don\’t look for any on the field down near the end zones.
