The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to name a new offensive line coach and special teams coach, but the general consensus seems to be that this week should be the week that the announcements are made now that everyone is back from the Senior Bowl.
While I have posted about the chances of Hal Hunter Jr. possibly being the new offensive line coach, we haven\’t heard any names floating around that would be candidates to replace Amos Jones until Monday morning.
Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette wrote in his blog Monday morning that he is hearing that Tomlin is looking at Danny Smith, the special teams coach of the Washington Redskins and that the Steelers have been granted permission to talk to him.
Smith is a native of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He began his coaching career at Edinboro (Edinboro, Pa.), the same place he played his collegiate football.
While Smith is an intriguing name, he reportedly signed a contract extension last offseason that is believed to run through the 2013 season. So, we shall see.
Hopefully we will have some news on this as early as today.
