Steelers Waive Safety Damon Cromartie-Smith On Wednesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers waived safety Damon Cromartie-Smith on Wednesday to get back down to the league mandated 53 number.

The Steelers were granted a 48 hour roster exemption on Monday when they reinstated rookie nose tackle Alameda Ta\’amu from the suspended following his two week suspension.

Cromartie-Smith had been signed to the 53 man roster this past Saturday off of the practice squad to play special teams because cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke had been benched for committing penalties on special teams in the three previous games.

Assuming Cromartie-Smith clears waivers, there is a good chance that he will be signed back to the Steelers practice squad early next week. His waiving on Wednesday is also a good sign that safety Ryan Clark will be able to play this week after suffering a concussion in the Sunday win over the Washington Redskins.

If indeed Cromartie-Smith is signed back to the practice squad, guard Jacques McClendon would likely be the player released from the 8 man unit to make room for him.
