The Pittsburgh Steelers announced today that they have signed the first of their four seventh-round draft picks from the 2012 NFL Draft, wide receiver Toney Clemons. The financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed, but the deal will total out at around $2.15 million and include base salaries of $390,000. $480,000, $570,000 and $660,000.
Clemons (6-2, 210), who was the 231st overall pick, is from Pittsburgh and attended Valley High School. He spent the first two years at the University of Michigan before transferring to the University of Colorado. Clemons was not invited to the 2012 Scouting Combine, but did run a reported 4.4 40-yard dash at his pro day. He also registered a 36″ vertical leap to go along with a 10\’08” broad jump.
In 2011 Clemons led Colorado with 680 receiving yards and was second on the team in receptions with 44. He also posted a team-high 8 touchdown receptions and recorded 476 receiving yards and three 100-yard receiving games in his final five games of the 2011 season.
Clemons is the third Steelers draft pick to sign as fourth round nose tackle Alameda Ta\’amu and fifth round running back Chris Rainey also agreed to terms this past weekend.
