The official release of the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers schedule remains a few hours away but Gerry Dulac has reported via Twitter that the Steelers will indeed open up the 2012 season in Denver against the Denver Broncos and new quarterback Peyton Manning. The Broncos have been speculated as a possible week one opponent of the Steelers for the last several weeks.
The down side to this news is that the Steelers will likely be without the services of veteran safety Ryan Clark, who has sat out the last few games played in Denver because of a sickle-cell trait that could cause him harm in the thin altitude of Denver. Clark lost nearly 40 pounds and needed to have his spleen and gallbladder removed after playing a game in Denver in 2007.
On a positive note, it will be the first regular season game that Manning has with his new team. He of course was released by the Indianapolis Colts this past offseason and decided to sign with the Broncos after being courted by several teams.
The game should be played in prime time and televised national on NBC.
