The pro days continue on and on Thursday the University of Miami was one of the most notable big schools to hold theirs. The Pittsburgh Steelers had a large contingent of coaches and scouts on hand to watch it as credentialed Steelers on hand were Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, Todd Haley, Keith Butler, Scottie Montgomery, Brandon Hunt and Phil Kreidler. Hunt is the Steelers Pro Personnel Coordinator and Kreidler is the Steelers Pro/College scout.
Some of the big offensive names the Steelers likely got a good eyeful of included guard Brandon Washington, running back Lamar Miller, tight end Chase Ford, wide receiver LaRon Byrd, wide receiver Travis Benjamin and wide receiver Tommy Streeter. Benjamin and Streeter reportedly stood on their combine numbers and focused on position drills. Washington lowered his 40 time from 5.25 to 5.07 and Ford ran a 4.76 40 time to go along with a 33 inch vertical jump and 20 reps on the bench. Byrd had a nice day as he ran a 4.46 40 time and a vertical jump of 35 inches.
Not to be left out was linebacker Sean Spence. He did not try to improve his bench numbers from the combine as he is still recovering from a deep bone bruise in his left shoulder he suffered at the Senior Bowl. He said he can normally do 19 reps of 225, 7 more than he did at the combine, and wants to send a video of him on the bench press to NFL scouts once healthy.
