The second annual “Shear Da Beard” charity event took place on Thursday night at Diesel Club Lounge as Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel and his father, Lane Keisel, both had their beards sheared. The event packed in friends and fans that paid $25.00 a ticket to view the beard cutting and partake in food, drinks and live music. There was also a live auction and all of the all proceeds from the event will be donated to cancer programs at Children\’s Hospital of Pittsburgh UPMC. The live entertainment was provided by Donnie Iris and the Chris Higbee Project.
When it got down to beard shearing time, several celebrity barbers all took turns snipping away at the famous Keisel beard and they included Steelers president Art Rooney II, head coach Mike Tomlin, defensive line coach John Mitchell, Aaron Smith, James Harrison, Doug Legursky, Heath Miller and the recently retired Chris Hoke. Smith\’s son, Elijah who battled leukemia at Children\’s Hospital, was the first one to get to cut on the beard.
You can read more about the festivities on the official Keisel website and here is a link to some pictures take from the event. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review also has some video highlights that you can see below. Keisel also posted a close-up picture to his Twitter account after he was all cleaned up.
Once again it shows how great of person Keisel is and what a great support group the Steelers organization is as well. Hopefully Keisel will begin growing the beard back soon and I suspect we can look forward to a third annual “Shear Da Beard” next offseason. Well done Brett.
