Steelers Sign WR Jamar Newsome To Practice Squad, Release DT Elisha Joseph

With Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders dealing with the death of his mother as well as an injured left knee, the Steelers signed wide receiver Jamar Newsome to the practice squad and released defensive tackle Elisha Joseph to make room for him. Joseph was signed back in the middle of October when the Steelers were dealing with injuries to Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith and Chris Hoke.

Newsome is 6-1, 201 lbs and was signed originally by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent earlier this year. He played his college football at Central Florida. He was waived by the Jaguars late in September and spent time after that on their practice squad.

Because of his size and build, Newsome will likely get reps on the scout team emulating Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin this week.

Here is a pre draft profile video of Newsome and below are some of his college highlights.
