The Sporting News network recently did a poll of 111 players from 31 teams and asked them which NFL coach they most would like to play for. The polled players were not allowed to vote for their own head coach according to the staff report.
It is not surprising that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin finished at the top of the list as he tied with Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Both Tomlin and Ryan received 22 votes each. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was a distant 3rd and tied with Packers head coach Mike McCarthy with 11 votes each.
Both Tomlin and Ryan have often been regarded as a player\’s type coach as both relate tremendously to their players. It also does not hurt Tomlin that he has already taken two teams to the Super Bowl during his short, but successful time in Pittsburgh. Face it, players always want to play on a winning team.
I do find it interesting in the poll results that 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh finished with 4 more votes than his brother John Harbaugh, head coach of the Ravens.
Make sure to read some of the quotes of players polled at the bottom of the article as former Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth is quoted in support of Tomlin.
