Could Bruce Arians Be A Candidate For Ole Miss Head Coach Job?

This will upset many of you I know, but Doug Segrest of The Birmingham News reports tonight that Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians could be a potential candidate to replace Houston Nutt at Ole Miss.

Segrest says Arians has strong ties to the area after coaching at both Alabama and Mississippi State and goes on to suggest that another connection revolves around Arians being the first quarterback coach for Peyton Manning when was a rookie. Archie Manning just happens to be on the search committee for the University of Mississippi.

Ron Cook wrote this morning that Arians told him he might not retire after this season. Arians was quoted as saying, “We\’ll see how it goes the rest of the season, but it\’s looking like I\’ll try coaching again next year,” Arians said Sunday. “These young guys have made it so much fun for me.”

Right now it seems like the report by Segrest is only speculation after connecting a few dots, but stranger things have happened. Arians has a close relationship with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the only way I could see him going to the college coaching ranks is if he is not retained again by the Steelers next season.
