Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley announced this morning via his Facebook page that he has just signed a new 6-year contract extension for $61.5 million. The deal includes $22.5 million in bonuses and he will be the second highest-paid Steeler of all time, behind only quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers have been working to sign Woodley to a long-term deal after giving him the franchise tag prior to the lockout starting. Woodley was scheduled to make a little over $10 million with that tag in 2011.
The six-year deal, will reportedly pay Woodley a total of $18.1 million in 2011 and $27 million over the first two years. The cap number for 2011 is not yet known.
ETA: The base salary for Woodley in 2011 is believed to be right at about $4 million with a 2011 cap hit of $6.35. You can view the Steelers salary cap page for more information.
