Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said after practice on Sunday that starting right cornerback Ike Taylor will indeed have surgery on Tuesday to repair his broken left thumb. Taylor injured the thumb early in the Friday game against the Redskins and will be sidelined indefinitely. Before practice Taylor told reporters he was unsure if he would be having surgery and did not know if he would miss the week 1 game against the Ravens.
Tomlin also said after practice that rookie running back Baron Batch will have ACL surgery on his left knee on Wednesday. Batch tore it late in practice last Wednesday after getting his foot caught in the field turf as he was finishing a run. No contact was involved in that injury and Batch will be placed on injured reserve.
