Byron Leftwich Having Surgery This Morning On Broken Arm

Steelers backup quarterback Byron Leftwich is undergoing surgery this morning to repair his broken left, non-throwing arm that he suffered in last night\’s preseason game against the Falcons. The injury happened in the third quarter when Leftwich landed awkwardly on his left arm after scrambling to the right side. He immediately ran to the sideline screaming in pain as his arm just dangled by his side.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said in his post-game press conference that Leftwich would be out an extended period of time, but stopped short of saying it would be a season-ending injury. Speculation is that Leftwich will indeed be placed on the injured reserve list at some point over the next few days. This marks the second preseason in a row that Leftwich has been injured as he strained his MCL in his left knee in the preseason finale last year against the Panthers. That injury cost Leftwich several weeks, but did not end his season.

ETA: Charlie Batch is reporting late Sunday via Twitter that the surgery was put off today and that we all will be updated tomorrow. Stay tuned.
