The Steelers are inching closer to a contract with 1st round pick Maurkice Pouncey and agent Joel Segal, sources tell Steelers Depot. Negotiations have picked up steam the last few hours and have been aided by the recent signings of Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and the Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain. Witherspoon was drafted one pick after Pouncey at number 19 overall and received a 5-year, $17.5 million max deal that includes $10.5 million in guaranteed monies. The Pouncey deal is expected to be 5 years and in the neighborhood total value of between 20 and 22 million dollars, sources said. The deal is expected to be finished on Friday as the Steelers report to Latrobe for training camp. This would mark the 6th straight year the Steelers have had all draft picks under contract by the start of training camp if indeed completed on time.
Friday 10:00 AM Updating our story above it appears almost certain that the two sides will reach an agreement today by the 4PM deadline per our sources. We also have calls into the Webster family in Lakeland, Florida and are expecting to hear back from them shortly.
