Reports are trickling out the Steelers will only use one of their two tags on kicker Jeff Reed if no deal is announced by 4:00 pm today. Reed will likely be given the exclusive franchise tag, while free safety Ryan Clark reportedly will not be tagged with the transition tag. The Steelers will reportedly meet again with Clark\’s agent, Joel Turner, during the NFL combine that starts today to continue contract talks. It appears that the Steelers are prepared to allow Clark to test the free agent waters as free agency begins. If given the exclusive franchise tag, Reed will be guaranteed 2.814 million for 2010 if no new deal is struck by the beginning of the season. All of this can change any minute between now and 4 pm today so stay tuned for the official announcements.
