The Steelers began practice preparations on Wednesday for the week 5 Sunday game in Detroit versus the Lions. Running back Willie Parker (toe) did not practice as he continues to recover from his turf toe injury suffered against Cincinnati. Safety Troy Polamalu (knee) returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, while wearing a brace. Linebacker Andre Frazier (shoulder) and guard Chris Kemoeatu (ankle) all sat out on Wednesday as well. Tight end David Johnson practiced fully as he looks to return from his high ankle sprain suffered a few weeks ago. Wide receiver Hines Ward (not injury related) had his normal day of on Wednesday. Correction: Safety Ryan Clark (back) practiced fully.
For the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, quarterback Matthew Stafford (knee) didn\’t practice today because of a sore right knee. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said it\’s still possible that Stafford could start on Sunday against the Steelers. Tackle Gosder Cherilus (shoulder), defensive tackle Sammie Hill (ankle), wide receiver Calvin Johnson (thigh), safety Kalvin Pearson (quad), safety Ko Simpson (hamstring) and defensive end Dewayne White (hamstring) all sat out on Wednesday as well. Defensive tackle Grady Jackson (knee) and linebacker Ernie Sims (shoulder) were both limited today. Defensive end Cliff Avril (hamstring) and running back Kevin Smith (shoulder) both practiced fully.
