NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has now released the latest version of his mock of the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and he has new name for us to discuss for the Pittsburgh Steelers at the 15th overall selection.
LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has made a pretty big jump in Jeremiah’s latest mock draft and that’s who he currently sees the Steelers taking in the first round.
Beckham is gaining steam as we head toward the draft. He is explosive with the ball in his hands and he’s a weapon in the return game as well.
Beckham is now Jeremiah’s third-rated wide receiver behind Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans, and now that the team has lost both Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery during free agency, they have an even bigger need at the position.
During his three seasons at LSU, Beckham registered 143 catches for, 2340 and 12 touchdowns. At the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Beckham measured in at just over 5’11” and weighed 198 pounds. He ran a 4.43 forty time and a registered a 38.5 vertical jump.
Is 15th overall too high for Beckham? Many project him to be a slot receiver in the NFL, but he can play outside as well. Last season, he was targeted 90 times and only caught 59 passes for a 65.6 completion percentage. In addition, of his 12 career college touchdowns that he scored, only two came inside the red zone.
Discuss Beckham below in the comments.
