Steelers Invite South Carolina LB Debo Williams To Rookie Minicamp

The Pittsburgh Steelers have invited South Carolina LB Debo Williams to participate in their rookie minicamp next weekend on a tryout basis, per Aaron Wilson on X.

Williams played four seasons at South Carolina after spending his freshman 2020 year at Delaware. The Covid-19 pandemic shortened the season, and he never actually ended up playing for Delaware.

He played most of his snaps for the Gamecocks as an inside linebacker and also contributed on special teams on the punt return and field goal-block units.

In four seasons at South Carolina, Williams registered 225 total tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble, and three passes defensed. That included a 113-tackle season in 2023. He served as a team captain for his last two seasons and had other accolades, including a strength and conditioning award, a spot on SEC’s fall honor roll, and first-team All-SEC in 2023.

Here’s a clip of Williams reading a handoff and pulling the trigger downhill to make a tackle for loss from The Draft Network’s Keith Sanchez.

The 6003, 225-pound linebacker was not invited to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, but he worked out at his Pro Day. He ran a 4.85-second 40-yard dash with a 31.5-inch vertical jump, a 9’4″ broad jump, 4.44-second short shuttle and a 7.71-second three-cone drill. He also measured in with 31 5/8-inch arms.

Most impressively, he put up a whopping 32 reps on the bench press. Williams is a downhill thumper with some serious play strength.

Williams becomes the third reported player to get invited to Steelers’ rookie minicamp, joining Pitt EDGE Nate Matlack and Notre Dame CB/RET Max Hurleman.

There will at least a dozen more invites that get announced in the coming days leading up to the minicamp, potentially including some veteran players like last year with CB Anthony Averett and RB Jonathan Ward. They will all have to chance to compete for likely one to three spots on the Steelers’ offseason 90-man roster.
