Insider Doesn’t Think Aaron Rodgers Would Be ‘Opposed’ To Steelers Drafting QB If He Signs With Them

At the moment, it’s unclear who the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback will be in 2025. It feels like they’re going to sign Aaron Rodgers, but no deal is done yet. Rodgers isn’t a long-term solution for the Steelers, either. Maybe they’ll draft a quarterback with one of their first picks, even if they sign Rodgers. While some people might think that would upset Rodgers, insider James Palmer doesn’t think he would mind it.

“Aaron [Rodgers] has been under the assumption, I believe, that he wouldn’t come in and just think a team is still not gonna draft a quarterback of the future, or still not take a quarterback,” Palmer said recently on Bleacher Report’s YouTube channel. “Remember, the Steelers like to go into camp with four quarterbacks.

“I think they have two on their roster right now. I don’t think, if the right player falls to them, say it’s a Tyler Shough or say it’s a Jalen Milroe, say it’s one of these guys that they can get in the second round, or possible even the third, that they would be opposed to that. No, I don’t think they’d be opposed to it at all. I also don’t think that Aaron is gonna be opposed to that, either.”

That would be good news for the Steelers. They shouldn’t allow Rodgers’ presence to prevent them from trying to find their next franchise quarterback. Rodgers is 41 years old and still hasn’t even signed in Pittsburgh. He shouldn’t drastically alter their plans in the draft.

It’s not like Rodgers would be in the same situation as when the Green Bay Packers drafted Jordan Love. At that time, Rodgers was the Packers’ franchise quarterback. He had a lot of good football left, as evidenced by the two MVP awards he won in the following years. Rodgers was trying to win a Super Bowl, but he probably felt like the Packers were trying to replace him.

If he signs with the Steelers, he shouldn’t worry about being replaced. He’ll likely only be with them for a year, maybe two. The Steelers signing him means they also want to win now. They probably won’t reach on a quarterback, especially if there’s a player available that can fill one of their other needs.

Also, the 2025 quarterback class doesn’t look too impressive. The last time the Steelers drafted a quarterback in a weak class, they ended up with Kenny Pickett. Fans likely don’t want to repeat that scenario.

That doesn’t mean the Steelers won’t draft a quarterback, though. They probably should take a swing on a guy on Day 2 or 3. Perhaps Rodgers would even be willing to mentor that player, although he wouldn’t be obligated to. However, just getting to be in the same quarterback room as Rodgers could be good for a rookie. He’s one of the best to ever do it.
