Steelers Assistant GM Andy Weidl Attends Ole Miss Pro Day

Pittsburgh Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl is in attendance for Ole Miss Pro Day Friday, making a stop at one of the most talent-rich schools in the country. We spotted Weidl watching the shuttle drills during the SEC Network’s broadcast of the event.

Ole Miss has a plethora of potential high-round prospects, including DL Walter Nolen, who could be a target for the Steelers in the first round, and QB Jaxson Dart, who has been linked to the team in a number of recent mock drafts. Additionally, the team has DL Jared Ivey, EDGE Princely Umanmielen, WR Tre Harris, CB Trey Amos, LB Chris Paul Jr., DL JJ Pegues and WR Antwane Wells Jr. All are expected to be picked in April.

Brian Baldinger previously reported that the Steelers would have a presence at Ole Miss to see Walter Nolen, and the Steelers sent Weidl to scout him. Other personnel members may have attended and we’ll update this post and our 2025 tracker if we see them.

The Steelers have a big need along their defensive line, and Nolen is expected to come off the board in the first round. But getting a good look at players like Dart, Wells and Harris, in addition to other defensive linemen like Pegues and Ivey will be beneficial for the Steelers as they fill out their draft board.

With so many top prospects at Ole Miss, it makes sense to send a high-level personnel member like Weidl to Oxford. So far, we’ve yet to see Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan and Weidl’s presence suggests those two didn’t make the trip. They’ve had a busy Pro Day schedule this week stopping at Ohio State, Notre Dame, and reportedly Texas (though if they went to Austin, it doesn’t appear they stayed for the workout).

Even if the Steelers don’t draft someone from Ole Miss, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they keep tabs on some of the players they’ve seen, and they could still wind up being Steelers in the future.

UPDATE (1:31 PM): Former Steelers CB Ike Taylor, who is believed to still have an unofficial scouting role with the organization, put CB Trey Amos through positional drills.
