Opening Day Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Steelers Depot Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday, and I hope yinz are doing well.

Another week, another week waiting for Aaron Rodgers to decide his future. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in a holding pattern since our last Friday Five, the latest major update being Rodgers’ trip to the team facility one week ago but leaving without a deal.

Quarterback dominoes have fallen elsewhere. Russell Wilson inked a one-year deal with the New York Giants, leaving Rodgers as the only viable full-time starter in free agency. Belief continues to be that Rodgers will eventually sign with Pittsburgh, but retirement has also been floated as the Rodgers wait jets past its second week.

The Steelers made a minor roster addition this week, claiming OG Lecitus Smith off waivers from the New England Patriots. He’ll compete to add interior depth along the Steelers’ offensive line.

Pittsburgh’s been busy on the Pro Day trail with Mike Tomlin attending Ohio State and Notre Dame’s sessions this week. Pro Days begin to wrap up this week though individual prospects will hold their own workouts and “showcases” throughout April. Our pre-draft visitor list is halfway full, showing a heavy emphasis on mid-round running backs.

As always, we’re here with you through the weekend to cover whatever happens. And we’ll handle refreshing Twitter for Aaron Rodgers news so you don’t have to.

1 – Assuming the Steelers replace Najee Harris in the draft, what round will Pittsburgh pick a running back?

2 – Same question at WR: what round will the Steelers draft the position (or will they draft one at all)?

3 – What’s the better option? Sign Rodgers or trade a sixth-round pick for Kirk Cousins?

4 – Who will be Pittsburgh’s 2025 punter – Corliss Waitman or Cameron Johnston?

5 – Rank the four AFC North teams based on how well they’ve done in free agency/this offseason (here’s a helpful tracker of offseason moves).

Recap of 2025 Spring Weekend Friday Night Five Questions

Question 1: Most Steelers Depot respondents believe the Steelers will draft a safety. Eleven of 15 selected a round, and the median response was the fifth.

Question 2: Ten of 15 respondents say George Pickens will remain a Steeler for the entire 2025 season.

Question 3: Depot respondents went back and forth between Jalen Milroe and Tyler Shough. Six opted for Milroe to five for Shough. Two held out for Will Howard. One person went with Brady Cook toward the end of the draft.

Question 4: Another close vote. Eight folks said, yes give up on pursuing Aaron Rodgers. Seven favored continuing pursuit of the four-time NFL MVP if the price is right.

Question 5: A slight 8-to-7 majority say drafting a defensive lineman is NOT a “must” for Pittsburgh. Several in the majority want the Steelers to draft a defensive lineman but if a superlative player in another position falls to them, they want the option to shift. Others saw this as an opportunity to trade back for additional picks.
