If you haven’t noticed, Aaron Rodgers has been the topic of discussion regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers. He made more news early on Monday morning, when it was reported that Rodgers and one of the Steelers’ newest additions, DK Metcalf, worked out together.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport spoke on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, and he added extra information regarding the workout.
“This was not a coincidence… This was a planned throwing session,” Rapoport told the show. “It sounds like it went very well. From my understanding, it was lengthy… It probably is [Aaron Rodgers] last stop, he needs to make sure it’s right. If that includes throwing with the newly-acquired star receiver for the team, okay… It wasn’t much of a secret.”
It’s not uncommon for players to work out with each other during the offseason. Even if they’re not on the same team, guys like to get work in with whoever is available wherever they’re training. Metcalf and Rodgers may both have been in California, making for an easy connection.
One of the biggest things Rapoport notes, though, is that the session was planned. Since Rodgers is deciding whether to go to Pittsburgh or not, that’s a big deal. Based on the reporting, it seems that the two made a clear effort to get together. It’s not surprising, since being familiar with each other is massively important to any success the two would have in 2025. However, it does show that some wheels are turning on Rodgers’ side of things, at least.
As for that eventual decision, Rapoport thinks it’s more likely that Rodgers ends up a Steeler, than anything else. He also expects more clarity about a month from now.
“The draft is really the next time where things get real… If it’s not Rodgers, they might draft someone,” Rapoport said. “And you’d obviously need to know by the draft. So that’s kinda the only real deadline.”
The draft feels like an eternity from now, but we’ve already been waiting on Rodgers for a month. The Steelers clearly aren’t afraid to wait on Rodgers, either. Mike Tomlin even stated that he doesn’t need clarity until training camp. Since their Plan-B at this point would come in the draft, it makes sense that they’d want to know by then. For now, it slowly seems more and more likely that Rodgers will be a Steeler in 2025.
