The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed DL Breiden Fehoko to their offseason roster. The news was confirmed by agent David Canter, who tweeted the news moments ago.
Fehoko, listed at 6026, 310 pounds in the 2020 NFL Draft, played his college ball at Texas Tech and LSU. Undrafted, he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020 and had been with the team until this offseason. He’s appeared in 19 games, starting four and logging 420 career defensive snaps. In 2022, he recorded 23 tackles, including one for a loss. He does not have an NFL sack.
He reacted to the news shortly after his agent tweeted the signing.
Fehoko, 26, should be considered a nose tackle, a position of need for the Steelers. Tyson Alualu hit free agency and likely will retire while Montravius Adams struggled last season. Fehoko won’t move the needle much, but he provides defensive line depth with some NFL experience.
He is the second native Hawaiian to be signed by the Steelers this offseason, joining OG Nate Herbig. In college, Fehoko recorded 71 tackles (16.5 for a loss) with four sacks. This NFL.com scouting report notes he was a big recruit out of high school but struggled in his career, writing:
“He’s missing the desired mass and athletic ability to build around. His body control and balance fall below functional levels. There aren’t enough physical or play traits to expect him to make an NFL team.”
And evidently, he was a Steelers’ fan growing up. Or at least a Troy Polamalu one.
