2023 NFL Draft

Steelers Show Interest In Ivy League Rusher At College Gridiron Showcase

With the Pro Day circuit in full swing, many have turned their eyes to where HC Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan will be watching potential first-round draft picks given the Steelers’ history of having both the GM and HC on-hand for their first-round pick’s Pro Day. However, the Steelers are doing their due diligence on college prospects with a wide variety of draft projections. That includes Harvard RB Aidan Borguet, who met with the Steelers at that College Gridiron Showcase, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Borguet crushed his Pro Day workout in Cambridge, putting up an impressive 35 reps on the bar while running a 4.56 40, a 4.26 short shuttle, a 7.38 three-cone, leaping 36” in the vert, and 9’9” in the broad at 5080, 205lb.

Borguet is a senior prospect who has been making noise in the Ivy League since his freshman year in 2019 when he was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year after finishing the season with 645 total yards and seven touchdowns. He broke the Yale-Harvard rivalry rushing record as a true freshman, rushing for a whopping 269 yards and four TDs on just 11 carries. As a senior in 2022, Borguet rushed for 1,183 yards and 10 touchdowns on 206 carries. He added five catches for 58 yards and one TD in 10 games played, earning unanimous First-Team All-Ivy League honors.

Borguet has near identical size to Steelers RB Jaylen Warren, who was a UDFA signed last year after the draft. Warren turned that opportunity into a viable role in the offense, carrying the ball 77 times for 379 yards (4.9 YPC) and a TD along with 28 receptions for 214 yards as the primary backup behind Najee Harris. Given Pittsburgh’s RB situation, the Steelers will likely avoid investing draft capital into the position this offseason and instead sign a UDFA like they did last year when they hit on Warren. Perhaps Borguet could be a name that Pittsburgh targets as a player to bring to training camp and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.
