2019 NFL Week 10: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Steelers Depot Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday to yinz and here’s to hoping your weekend is off to a great start.

Any of yinz going to go see the movie ‘Midway’ this weekend? If you do see it, let me know via Twitter or email how you liked it. I’m a big war documentary and movie buff and so I’m interested in seeing this new release at some point in the near future.

When was the last time that you watched Super Bowl XIV between the the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Rams? Tonight is a great time to do that with the Steelers hosting the Rams Sunday at Heinz Field. You can watch it below if you would like to.

The Steelers obviously have a tough test ahead of them on Sunday against the Rams. A Steelers win might be considered the biggest win of the season and maybe one of the biggest regular season win of Mike Tomlin’s career. We look forward to continuing to get yinz ready for that late Sunday afternoon game and will have more content previewing that contest on the site all day Saturday.

As usual, I have five questions for yinz to answer on this Friday night and you have until the kickoff of the Sunday game between the Steelers and Rams to do so.

Also, thank you to all of yinz that visited the site this past week and we hope everyone enjoyed all of the content. Have a great and safe weekend and go Steelers.

1 – Over/under 2.5 total Steelers touchdowns scored on Sunday against the Rams?

2 – Over/under 71.5 total receiving yards for wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on Sunday against the Rams?

3 – Over/under 241.5 total passing yards for quarterback Mason Rudolph on Sunday against the Rams?

4 – Over/under 9.5 total converted third downs the Steelers and Rams will combine to have?

5 – Will Steelers wide receiver Johnny Holton register his first reception of the season Sunday against the Rams?

Recap of 2019 NFL Week 9 Friday Night 5 Questions

Question 1: Mason Rudolph passed for 251 yards against the Miami Dolphins. A career high. Miami’s defense gives up 251.6 yards per game. He only had 191 yards passing versus a Colts defense that had averaged giving up 237 passing yards going into the game. Steelers Depot respondents believed injuries to James Conner and Bennie Snell would force the Steelers to pass more. Only 23.4% picked Mason Rudolph to pass under 235.5 yards.

Question 2: Jacoby Brissett’s injury early settled this question quickly. He only had 59 yards passing when he left the game due to a sprained MCL in his left knee. 68.75% of respondents had picked Rudolph to have more passing yards and gained a point.

Question 3: JuJu received over 80.5 yards in 3 of 7 games played coming into this game. But he was averaging just 63.3 receiving yards per game before the Colts game. The Colts blanketed JuJu limiting him to 3 receptions for 16 yards. Rudolph threw 5 passes in his direction. One bounced off his hands which the Colts intercepted. Respondents split 50/50 on the over/under.

Question 4: An overwhelming 89% of Depot respondents predicted that Ryan Switzer would not carry the ball more than 3 yards versus the Colts. Switzer has 6 carries for 21 yards (3.5 yards per attempt) since becoming a Pittsburgh Steeler. However, all those attempts were in 2018. Respondents may have puckered a bit in the first quarter when Switzer appeared on the field including lining up briefly in the backfield. He ended up with no carries in 8 offensive snaps.

Question 5: Steelers Depot HQ dangled 5 points to the respondents who predicted the exact combined total points scored by the Steelers and Colts. Predictions ranged from the Steelers & Colts scoring 27 to 56 combined points. The median response was 44 points. No one correctly answered 50. However, 5 respondents bracketed the elusive point total but just missed out on the 5 bonus points. Steely McBeam predicted a 49-point total while Earl, Reese Dare, SJT63, & FlaFan47 predicted the Steelers and Colts combining for 51 points.

Most respondents who answered the survey question believe the Steelers did NOT initiate a call the Jets to inquire about trading for running back Le’Veon Bell. A sizeable minority believe the Steelers did call to exercise due diligence.

Previous Weeks: There are 15- & 5-point bonus up for grabs from week 1 by correctly predicting the Steelers & Browns regular season records for those that answered. Pittsburgh won & Cleveland lost again this past weekend. 93.9% are still in the running for the 15 point & 96.3% for the 5-point bonuses. 90.2% could end up with both.

Please, welcome Westonian420, lkwdsteel, & kjacksonpgh who responded to this season’s contest for the first time. Keep answering!

Three folks hit the weekly 5-point bonus by answering questions 1-4 correctly! Jamie Barnhart leapt to 2nd place. Yours truly entered the leaderboard for the first time this season. However, no change at the very top: ManRayX remains in first for the 4th week in a row and extended his lead by hitting the weekly bonus. Kudos!

Here are the consensus responses of Steelers Depot respondents compared to the correct answers:

Questions Rudolph O/U 235.5 pass yards Brissett/Rudolph most yards JuJu O/U 80.5 Receiving Yards Switzer +3 carry Point Total
SD Consensus OVER RUDOLPH SPLIT NO 44
Correct Answers UNDER RUDOLPH UNDER NO 50

ManRayX remains in first place on the leaderboard. Jamie Barnhart now in 2nd 6 points off lead.

Four respondents are back on the leaderboard. Beaver Falls Hosiery Company got a big bump from hitting the 5-point weekly bonus landing in 13th place. Veteran respondent Rene Gonzalez is making a first appearance this season after hovering a point or two away from the leaderboard for a several weeks. Tonyamos7 & Jaybird return to the board. Four folks dropped out this week. Two inexplicably did not respond this week. The other two just underperformed. Let’s see if they return and launch a bid to reach the top.

Don’t forget to respond this weekend so that you all can maintain the pace. It just takes one good set of answers to make a significant move toward the prize money.
