The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced their four captains for 2019. They are: Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, Cam Heyward, and Roosevelt Nix.
This is Roethlisberger’s 11th time being named one of the team’s captains while Pouncey earns those honors for the third time. Heyward has done it five straight years while Nix has been voted captain for the first time of his career. He’ll lead the special teams group.
This group of captains are nearly identical to 2018. The only change is Nix being named the captain in place of Chris Boswell, who struggled last year.
Roethlisberger is the face of the franchise and though his numbers may be down a bit from last year, simply due to the likelihood this team throws less, will remain as one of football’s top quarterbacks. Pouncey is one of the top centers in football even if the national media continually underrates him. Heyward has 20 sacks over the last two years, finishing with eight in 2018. And Nix is a core special teamer and tone setter for special teams in addition to his duties at fullback.
The Steelers will kick off their regular season on Sunday night against the New England Patriots.
