TJ Watt To Wear #90 For Steelers

I don’t know if the number will end up sticking but TJ Watt will begin his career wearing #90. He took to Twitter to announce it this afternoon.

Of course, with the entire offseason to get through, numbers can – and often do – change, so I wouldn’t recommend going out and buying that jersey quite yet. We should know the rest of the numbers for the rookies in the next few days or at the latest, by rookie minicamp. That’s set to begin on May 12th.

Watt wore #42 at Wisconsin.

Recent players to wear #90 include Steve McLendon and Travis Kirschke. Thaddeus Gibson was the last OLB to hold it and let’s cross our fingers Watt’s career doesn’t end up down the same path. Or Huey Richardson, the 15th overall pick in 1991 and one of the biggest busts in franchise history.

The first Steeler to ever wear #90 was John Howie in 1956. There’s your useless trivia for the day. Go nuts.

If anyone has the photoshop chops, tweet/DM me on Twitter (@Alex_Kozora) of Watt in his new uniform. We’ll throw it on this post, into the Twitter universe, and of course, give you credit.

Facebook user Arnett Oliver sent this one in. Great job, Arnett!
