Steelers Meet With DL Carlos Watkins, Show Interest In TE Jordan Leggett

Some more updates from today’s biggest Pro Day – Clemson. Draft Insider Tony Pauline over at Draft Analyst has some good nuggets of information and the Pittsburgh Steelers are showing interest in at least two Tigers. Pauline reports the team met with DL Carlos Watkins last night and spent time during today’s workout talking with tight end Jordan Leggett.

On Watkins:

“Watkins met with the Pittsburgh Steelers last night — Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin were on hand today”

And Leggett:

“The Cincinnati Bengals spent a significant amount of time with Leggett who also met with the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets.”

It’s unclear who attended Watkins’ meeting last night though you can assume Colbert and Tomlin were present. He didn’t workout at the Combine but weighed in at 6’3 309 with over 34 inch arms, making him a prototypical fit as a five tech in the Steelers’ system. A 2016 All-American, Watkins finished season with 82 tackles, 13.5 for a loss, and 10.5 sacks.

We’ve written plenty on Leggett, an athletic tight end who can be a downfield threat and gives effort as a blocker. Pauline notes teams were impressed with his strength in the run game during his workout. According to unofficial numbers, Leggett ran in the high 4.6’s and Watkins about a five-flat in the 40, strong numbers for both men.
