Steelers Promote Shabazz To 53 Man Roster

The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun their roster move dance to makeup for the rash of injuries they’ve suffered, beginning by signing cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz to their 53 man roster. Their agency, Tier 1 Sports Management, announced the news on Twitter.

It was first reported by PennLive’s Jacob Klinger.

Shabazz, a second year UDFA out of West Chester, originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He spent the entire 2016 preseason with the Steelers, a big bodied corner who progressed throughout camp. He was released at final cutdowns but immediately signed to the practice squad.

Shabazz move comes with the injuries to Justin Gilbert and Robert Golden in the secondary. Shabazz will be active but his involvement is uncertain. He’ll likely play on a couple of the special teams’ units.

He will wear #20 for the Steelers.

No corresponding move has been announced though one figures to come soon. We’ll keep you updated.
