2016 NFL Cutdown Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Steelers Depot Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday to all of you and welcome to Labor Day weekend, which just so happens to include the league’s deadline for final roster cuts.

Between now and 4 p.m. EST on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have set their initial 53-man roster for the 2016 season. With that said, that group of 53 players more than likely won’t be the same 53 that travel to Washington next weekend for the team’s Monday night opener.

With the preseason now over and nothing really on tap for this Friday night, it’s time to resume our weekly five question post. As usual, I hope several of you will take time out to answer these five questions in the comments below.

I have big news to announce as my wife and I have purchased a house here in Las Vegas this past week. That means no more apartment life. I am hoping the move will take place during the Steelers bye week. No, it doesn’t have a basement.

Have a very safe holiday weekend and thank you for your patronage to this site. Peace and love to all of you.

1 – Are you keeping linebacker Tyler Matakevich on the 53-man roster, or are you waving him with the hopes you can get him to the practice squad?

2 – Of the 53 players who you think will ultimately make up this year’s initial roster, which one will wind up there without your blessings?

3 – Do you think Randy Fichtner will be able to salvage the career of new Steelers quarterback Zach Mettenberger enough so that he can become a reliable backup to starter Ben Roethlisberger in 2017?

4 – How many “rookies” waived league-wide during this weekend’s final round of roster cuts to you think will be claimed off waivers?

5 – Fill in the blank: I’m watching the final round of cuts to see if ________________ is let go so that the Steelers can snatch him up.
