According to a graphic posted on NFL Network Tuesday night, the three-year contract that Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback William Gay signed earlier in the day totals out at $7.5 million.
Now, I’m not entirely sure how accurate this number is but I am passing along a screen-grab that Twitter follower @SeanHowell21 passed along to me so you can see what was reported.
If indeed Gay’s contract does total out at $7.5 million, that’s quite a bargain. In fact, that average of $2.5 per season is exactly what former Steelers cornerback Brice McCain received from the Tennessee Titans earlier this week.
Continuing on with some speculation on that $7.5 million total contract value, one would think that if true, Gay likely received around $3 million at signing and that might include a signing bonus of $1 million. Based on those speculated numbers, Gay’s salary cap charge in 2016 would be 2,333,333.
If you remember, Gay’s last contract that he signed back in 2013 was for three years and it totaled out at $4.5 million.
Once again, the numbers above are really just based off of one report so we’ll have to wait and see if they hold up in future reports. I will pass along any future updates.
UPDATE: Here are the official numbers of Gay’s contract.
William Gay three-year, Steelers deal: $7.5 million, $1.9M signing bonus, salaries $1.85M, $2M, $1.75M
