Injured Ravens CB Jimmy Smith Might Not Miss Steelers Game

The Baltimore Ravens have struggled with a lot of injuries this season but it looks like their star cornerback won’t miss Sundays game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after suffering an injury on Sunday.

According to Ryan Mink of the Ravens official website, the thigh injury that cornerback Jimmy Smith suffered Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs isn’t believed to be serious.

“Jimmy has a good chance [of returning Sunday],” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Monday. “I just talked to him and I think he’s got a good chance to play, so we’ll see how it goes this week.”

Smith, who has 51 total tackles and 2 interceptions on the season, left Sunday’s game against the Chiefs after the opening drive and did not return. He was replaced by Lardarius Webb in the starting lineup and that resulted in Jumal Rolle also seeing considerable playing time in the game.

In related news, Harbaugh said Monday he’s not sure who will start at quarterback Sunday against the Steelers.

“It’s a unique situation right now that we’re in, obviously,” he said. “It’s different than normal. We’ll see how it plays out. … We’ll see who the guy is. I don’t know who the guy is going to be right now at this stage, so we’ll see.”

The Ravens have three veterans to choose from in Jimmy Clausen, Matt Schaub, and Ryan Mallett. Clausen started the last two games while Schaub nursed a chest injury. As for Mallett, he recently joined the Ravens and it sounds like they would like to get him some playing time in their final two games of the season.

“We’ll see how that goes,” Harbaugh said of Mallett, according to the Baltimore Sun. “He has done a good job. He has been here since Tuesday, so he has done a good job. He has been here practically 24/7, learning the offense. We’ll see where it goes this week. Obviously, the clock is ticking. If we want to see him this year, we’re going to have to put him out pretty quick, but that’s a matter of whether he’s ready to play. We also want to do justice to our chances to win the game, too.”

The Ravens enter Sundays game with a 4-10 record with one of their wins coming against the Steelers back in Week 4 in overtime. They currently have 19 players on their Reserve/Injured list.
