Call me an apologist if you must, but it’s pretty clear Antwon Blake is far from fully healthy.
Blake posted a practice photo to his Instagram account yesterday and it showed the cornerback with a case on his left hand.
He’s also seeming to deal with a right arm issue, too. In addition to the sleeve he’s been wearing since the start of the regular season – I doubt that’s solely a fashion statement – here’s a Vine I took of him Sunday shaking out his right hand after whiffing on a tackle.
Throughout the game, Blake would often keep his right arm stiff and hanging close to his side.
He was listed on the injury report earlier in the season with a thumb injury.
A strong tackler in 2014, he’s been inconsistent this season, much to the chagrin of Steelers’ fans. Our own Jon Ledyard lists Blake as the team leader in missed tackles with 21, five more than anyone else.
For the year, he has 58 tackles, 2 INTs, and a forced fumble. Though whether he should be playing hurt will surely be debated in the comments, the injuries would explain his poor tackling. Hard to wrap up when both arms are injured.
