Steelers Versus Chargers: Week 5 Projected Inactive List

The Pittsburgh Steelers will play their fifth game of the 2015 season on the road Monday night against the 2-2 San Diego Chargers as they look to get back in the win column. As usual, here is my best guess as to what the Steelers list of inactives will look like prior to the game. Inactives aren’t announced until 90 minutes before kickoff, so check back on the site around that time for the official lists from both teams.

Ben Roethlisberger – The Steelers starting quarterback will miss his second game Monday night but all reports are suggesting that he is progressing well. He was able to jog off of the practice field this past week and continues to throw the football some on the side. While Roethlisberger is a good bet to miss the team’s Week 6 game as well, I wouldn’t rule him out for the Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs just yet. With Roethlisberger down, Landry Jones will dress as the backup to Mike Vick.

Ryan Shazier – After practicing fully on Wednesday and Thursday, Shazier sat out the team’s Friday practice with his shoulder injury. Shazier was ruled out on the final injury report and that means he’ll miss his third-straight game as a result. Shazier was deemed questionable at the start of the week by head coach Mike Tomlin.

Cortez Allen – Allen ended the week listed as questionable and thus appears set to miss a fourth-straight game. Allen practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday but was limited on Friday with his knee injury. With Allen likely to be down, Ross Cockrell will continue to dress and play in his absence.

L.T. Walton – Being as Daniel McCullers is expected to dress Monday night after missing the last two games with a left knee injury, Walton would figure to be the odd man out. The rookie draft pick was able to play 9 defensive snaps over the course of the last two weeks while McCullers was sidelined.

Jesse James – James hasn’t dressed for a game so far this season and with Matt Spaeth expected to be back Monday night after missing last week with a hand injury, James can likely expect to be without a helmet once again this week.

Anthony Chickillo – Assuming no roster move is made on Monday to activate wide receiver Martavis Bryant back to the 53 man roster, then Chickillo should once again find his name on the inactive list for a second straight week. He was promoted to the roster a week ago Wednesday.

Chris Hubbard – If Spaeth does indeed dress Monday night, Hubbard figures to go back to the inactive list once again. Last week, Hubbard served as an extra blocker on 11 total offensive plays after being inactive for the team’s first three games of the season.
