NFL Draft

Report: Nebraska Edge Rusher Randy Gregory Back Under 230 Pounds

We don’t have long to wait until the 2015 NFL Draft gets underway in Chicago and while Nebraska edge-rusher Randy Gregory is still currently expected to be drafted in the first 20 selections despite testing positive for marijuana at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine, the latest rumor about him making the rounds certainly won’t help his cause if it winds up being true.

According to longtime sportswriter Dan Pompei, Gregory recently weighed under 230 pounds when he visited with an undisclosed team.

In early March, Gregory reportedly weighed 238 pounds at his pro day after weighing in at the combine at 235 pounds. Keep in mind that this is the same Randy Gregory that reportedly dipped below 220 pounds at times while at Nebraska.

If Gregory is going to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense at the NFL level, one would think that 238 pounds would be the absolute minimum that teams would want him to weigh. By the sound of things, it appears as though he has a problem of keeping weight on. Either that, or he just refuses to do so.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had the 6-4 Gregory in for a pre-draft visit last Thursday, so they should have the most recent weight for him. Even though he recorded 17½ sacks over the course of the last two seasons, the organization might be wise to go a different direction should Gregory fall to them in the first round as there are just so many red flags associated with him.

In case you missed it, I recently broke down all seven of Gregory’s sacks from last season.
