Ben Roethlisberger Passing Chart For Jets Game

A reader recently emailed me and asked if I could put together a distance passing chart for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger based on his passing attempts in the Sunday loss to the New York Jets. I had a little extra time Tuesday night so I was able knock that request out.

You can see the chart below and it should be pretty straight forward. All dots indicate where the pass was thrown in relation to the line of scrimmage (30 yard-line) and only the air distance of the throws are indicated. The blue dots are completions while the red dots are incompletions. The yellow dots are of course the two interceptions. I left out the two spikes but did include the few throws that were negated by penalties.

In addition to the chart, I have a play by play listing of all of the throws charted below and that includes columns for the distance each pass was thrown past the line of scrimmage as well as yards gained after the catch. If you have watched the game a few times, this should help you in recalling most of the passes.

As you can see, Roethlisberger threw seven passes 15 or more yards past the line of scrimmage against the Jets and he completed just two of those throws. One of those two was the long touchdown to wide receiver Martavis Bryant, which was Roethlisberger’s final attempt of the game.

Nine of Roethlisberger’s attempts never made it past the original line of scrimmage. However, all nine were completed for a total of 20 yards gained.

Only two of Roethlisberger’s passes that went past the line of scrimmage were thrown between the hash marks and both of those passes were incomplete.

I hope to chart the game against the Indianapolis Colts like this over the course of the next few days so that you will have something to compare it to.
