More On Jah Reid Arrest: Confrontation Included Security Officials

More details are emerging on the arrest of Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Jah Reid early Sunday morning.

As previously reported, Reid was arrested on two counts of misdemeanor battery following an altercation in a bar in Key West, FL. Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun is now reporting that that physical altercation involved security officials at the bar, which resulted in minor facial injuries for one.

According to the public information officer of the Key West police department, Reid and another man by the name of Benjamin Buxton got into a fight with “several other people” as the result of a minor incident.

Police reviewing surveillance video from the Red Garter Saloon say that Reid was bumped into by another man, which escalated into an argument before the physical confrontation actually began.

The police say that Reid is seen on the video administering a head butt to one individual before proceeding to punch and kick him, which resulted in security officials at the establishment getting involved in the confrontation.

The affidavit goes on to say that Reid began punching the security officials who attempted to intervene in the confrontation. It says that one security official used a Taser on Buxton, but it is not clear how Reid was ultimately restrained—perhaps upon the threat of having the Taser used upon him.

Both Reid and Buxton were arrested on two counts of misdemeanor battery, and both were released on $2,000 bonds later on Sunday.

Reid, a former 2011 third-round draft selection of the Ravens, started seven games for the team at left guard in 2012, but otherwise has been limited to less than 100 snaps combined in his other two seasons.

Instead of starting him at left guard when Kelechi Osemele went down last year, head coach John Harbaugh turned to A.Q. Shipley, a former draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers who is primarily viewed as a center.

Chad Steele, the Ravens’ director of public relations, issued a short statement on the team’s behalf, writing, “we have learned of the situation and are gathering information”. It is uncertain if this incident places his position with the team in jeopardy.
