Steelers Sign CB Devin Smith To The Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers filled their open practice squad spot Wednesday by signing cornerback Devin Smith, who was with the team during training camp. Smith had been released from the Miami Dolphins practice squad on Tuesday.

Smith, who joined the Steelers during training camp as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin, was on the practice squad to start the season, but released a few days later as the team needed to make room for cornerback Isaiah Green, who had been waived from the 53 man roster.

Green was promoted back to the 53 man roster on Tuesday, so now Smith returns. The return of Green to the roster and Smith to the practice squad is probably a pretty good sign that cornerback Cortez Allen will not practice this week. Allen injured an ankle in the season opener and did not play Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals as a result.
