Cardinals Bring In William Gay For A Visit Monday

It should come as no surprise that the Arizona Cardinals brought Pittsburgh Steelers free agent cornerback William Gay in for a visit on Monday as the Cardinals defensive coordinator is Ray Horton, who coached the Steelers defensive backs prior to leaving for Arizona. Gay is an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with any team.

Gay has said his hopes were that he would remain in Pittsburgh for the upcoming season and general manager Kevin Colbert has left that open to happening as well. Gay was unrestricted last season and received little to no attention during the free agency period. He ultimately signed back with the Steelers right before training camp started. His contract was a one-year qualifying contract that paid him a $685,000.00 base salary with a $50,000.00 signing bonus. Because it was a veteran qualifying contract, his cap hit was only $575,000.00.

The Steelers are likely hoping to get Gay back for depth purposes and once again sign him to another one-year qualifying contract, but he certainly could run off to Arizona if given a better offer and it would not be surprising.
