Season 2, Episode 52 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I review the Steelers convincing 35-7 over the Cincinnati Bengals at Heinz Field on Sunday. With a game coming up on Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns, also at Heinz Field, the Steelers regular practice schedule has been altered this week and Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference today (Monday) at noon. We recap that and the injury report and review a couple new Tomlinisms that the coach dropped. Absolute gems. And, as usual, Tomlin makes this week\’s opponent sound like one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
We then get into Sunday victory. As lopsided as the score was the Bengals were the better team early on and we look at why the Steelers looked rusty in their opening drives and why the Bengals were able to move the ball right down the field. We go drive-by-drive thru the first half and look at the key plays and the key performers. As usual nothing is perfect and David has his rant on what the team and staff continue to do wrong time and again.
We broad-brush the second half as the game was put out of reach with an extended touchdown drive in the third quarter. We look at the schemes the Steelers used to keep the Bengals off-balance and talk about substitution packages, play selection, Hines Ward, and James Harrison among other things. We also look at where this team is now and discuss where there are opportunities to improve.
